Boston's Coziest Bars

Nothing is more New England than warming up in a tavern on a long, cold winter night. Not much has changed since the colonial days when it comes to a warm fireplace, friends and great drinks. Grab a cocktail and warm the belly at one of our favorite spots in town.

21st Amendment

150 Bowdoin St

Celebrate Repeal Day everyday in Beacon Hill at the 21st Amendment. The neighborhood pub hosts judges, politicians and even real Patriots right across the street from the State House. Enjoy a 21st Burger while staring at over a centuries worth of political ephemera.

The Dubliner

2 Center Plaza

This is an Irish pub you'll want to visit again and again for the friendly atmosphere and the fact that they always have the Pats or Bruins on. It doesn't hurt that their chowder is some of the best in the city. Don't go home just yet - you have time for one more drink before getting on the train.

The Black Rose

160 State St

The Black Rose is a comfortable brick-walled pub just steps from Faneuil Hall. Sure, it's usually filled with tourists, but that doesn't keep it from being cozy. There's corned beef, Guinness and a good chance that you'll catch some live music during after-work drinks.

Citizen Public House and Oyster Bar

1310 Boylston St

Hands down our favorite place to grab a pre-show or post-game cocktail, Citizen offers amazing comfort food, oysters galore, and serves over 200 whiskeys. It’s not easy to find a true neighborhood spot near Fenway Park, but Citizen is it.

Scobie's

782 Adams St

Small but lively, this Adams Village newcomer has already become a neighborhood favorite. Stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner, seven days a week, in their Galway-inspired setting. They offer a full Irish breakfast, weekly live music sets and Six Nations rugby watch parties - plan to arrive early if you want a seat.

Sweeney's

710 Boylston St

This quaint neighborhood pub took over Solas in the historic Lenox Hotel. Pick a spot at the welcoming bar or at a cozy table under a stained glass window. Tuck into the Guinness short rib sliders, beer battered fish and chips, and other Irish classics. Save room for the triple chocolate chip cookies.

Lower Mills Tavern

2269 Dorchester Ave

This neighborhood gem offers a cozy atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. Co-owned by Dropkick Murphys frontman Ken Casey and TV personality Taniya Nayak, they feature live music weekly and a charmingly intimate interior - plus an impressive beer list.

Tonino

669A Centre St

This JP hotspot offers a dining experience that's not to be missed. The small (okay, tiny - be sure to make a reservation), softly lit space creates an inviting atmosphere and the food is excellent. Grab one of the coveted chairs at the two-seat chef's counter, which offers a unique view of the open kitchen.
