The Local’s List is our series highlighting cool people doing cool things around Boston. Each week, we’ll check in on what they’re working on and get their go-to spots and personal recs.
Some people find their calling in a boardroom. Gorgonzola found hers in six-inch heels under the glow of stage lights. The drag queen and host has become one of the brightest personalities in Boston's nightlife. We caught up with Gorgonzola to talk about the city's queer scene, what it's like on stage, and the unexpected moments that turn a drag show into a core memory.
How did you pick the name Gorgonzola?
I picked Gorgonzola because it’s my favorite cheese! I definitely knew I wanted one name and I wanted something memorable and a little funny.
Do you have any pre-show routines?
Not particularly. I like to take my time and take a minute to myself right before going on the stage.
What’s the craziest thing that’s happened at one of your shows?
It’s not crazy, but super cute and it made me very emotional. At a lot of the shows we pull audience members to lipsync battle. One time it was a kid, couldn't have been older than 10, and this kid knew the Lady Gaga dance routine and was so unapologetically themself. His family was cheering, filming and being proud. That moment was so beautiful.

What are some of your favorite local venues to perform?
Honestly, I just love performing and it doesn’t matter where I am. Some of the places that I love are Blend, Club Cafe and Jacques Cabaret.
How would you describe Boston’s queer scene?
Boston’s queer scene is very diverse, but unfortunately also segregated. Partially, I think it’s because we don’t have a “gayborhood;” the queer places are so spread out from each other and it doesn’t help to unite all different types of queer people.
What advice would you give to someone interested in drag performing?
Honestly, just do it. Remember nobody is perfect and nobody is great in the beginning. Like other things in life, drag takes practice. The more you perform the better you get. Also think of who you are, what makes you you, and don’t try to be someone else.
Anywhere you like to go before a show or after to keep the party going?
Before the show I usually like to get ready at home and take time to myself. After the show, if I have the energy, I love to go and support other performers.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
I don’t do karaoke, trust me you don’t want to hear it. But it would probably be something by Kelly Clarkson.
What’s your perfect night out in Boston look like?
Get dinner, go to see a drag show, maybe go to see another drag show and go for long, late night walk around the city.
